Little Mermaid Auditions

WHEN: Monday, April 28th or Tuesday, April 29th
WHERE: The Cube in Bethany (7903 NW 30th St)
You will sing around 1 minute of a music theatre song of your choice. We prefer you have an accompaniment track to play from your phone on our speaker or we can pull it up for you if it’s off of Youtube. You may be asked to do a quick two 8 count dance for Becca or say a line or two for Amanda within your 5 minute slot.
Callbacks will take place on Thursday, May 1st. Not everyone will receive a callback. If you receive one and cannot make it, you’ll need to email Becca (becca@mytokc.org) to work something out such as a virtual submission.
If you cannot make it to auditions in person, you can email Becca to receive a link to submit a virtual audition. Virtual auditions must be submitted by April 29th at 6pm to be considered.

If you accept the role offered to you, rehearsals will begin on May 12th. Most rehearsals will take place at the Mustang Performing Arts Center with occasional rehearsals at The Cube. Most rehearsals will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 6-9pm. some small groups/leads may be called for a Saturday rehearsal based on availability.
We are generally lenient with a few conflicts on rehearsal evenings. However, excessive conflicts written on your audition sheet will impact your casting. With a short turnaround, we need you available. If you have questions or concerns about your conflicts, email Becca.
Tech week is Monday, June 23rd-Thursday, June 26th with performances on Friday evening, June 27th and Saturday afternoon & evening, June 28th. Tech rehearsals are required for you to be in the cast. These rehearsals are imperative to the safety and success of our show. If you have a completely unavoidable conflict that week, this must be made known to us at your audition so we can approve or deny your request to miss that tech rehearsal.

Audition FAQs
What should I sing for my audition?
Students should sing a one minute cut from a musical theatre song with a similar style to the show they are auditioning for. They should not sing a song from the show they are auditioning for. The auditioner should reflect on the role they feel would be best for them in the show and choose a musical song in the same style as that character. Utilize google! You can google “good audition songs for *insert name of musical here*” and come up with lots of options! Find a song you like and pick one minute from that song that features your voice well and you enjoy singing. Find a karaoke track on Youtube, buy the digital piano/vocal track on musicnotes.com, or sing it a cappella if you can’t find it in the first two locations. We will have a speaker you can connect to when you come into the audition room, or our music director can look up your karaoke track on Youtube for you. Movie musicals count as musicals!
How early should I get to my audition?
We have paperwork for you/your parent to fill out before you enter the audition room, so please arrive to your audition at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Please also have in mind your conflicts that you’ll need to let us know about that may occur on a rehearsal evening (Monday, Tuesday, or Thursdays). No conflicts are allowed the week of tech week. Conflicts might include weekly things like dance lessons or one night events such as choir concerts.
Will I have to dance?
Most likely, yes! If we have seen you in auditions before/you have done shows with us before, then you might get to skip learning the dance in your audition with the choreographer based on how we are doing on time. If you’ve never done a dance call with us, you will learn it with the choreographer in your 5 minute time slot. It will be 2-3 eight counts so the choreographer can see how you pick up dances & how you perform!
What should I wear to my audition?
You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in for your audition. There will most likely be a small movement/dance that the students will learn with the choreographer in their audition, but it won’t be anything too crazy. As long as you can move a bit in your clothing, you are good!
What are callbacks and does everyone get a callback?
Callbacks are when you are asked to come back to do more auditioning for the show! The director, choreographer, or music director may ask you to come back on a different evening to dance more, sing more, or read lines for certain characters in the show.
If you do NOT get a callback, that just means the creative team has seen what they need from you! You still have the chance to be cast in the show even without a callback.
